Cardiac rehabilitation is a significant part of your recovery. Cardiac rehabilitation is designed to improve your knowledge and skills regarding your heart health. By participating in cardiac rehabilitation, we hope to assist and support you to make healthier choices, in order to minimise your risk of future heart problems.
The information available below, will provide you with the education component of a traditional cardiac rehabilitation program. You can choose the pace at which you work through the topics. You may find you need to go back over previous topics as questions arise, and this is encouraged to help you to fully understand and remember all the important facts.

You can access important information here to help you understand
about heart disease and how to improve your heart health.
If you already have heart disease and have angina or have had a heart attack,
understanding what is happening to your body is essential in order to make the lifestyle
and behaviour changes necessary to prevent worsening of your disease.
Preventing this deterioration is known as secondary prevention.
If you have existing risk factors for heart disease but do not actually have heart disease yet,
you can prevent it happening by understanding the risk and making the lifestyle and behaviour
changes necessary to reduce or remove the risk factors from your life. Preventing the occurrence
of heart disease is known as primary prevention.
Whether you need access to primary or secondary prevention of heart disease, the information
you need is the same. You need to:
- Understand how the heart works
- Understand what heart disease is
- Understand what causes heart disease
- Understand how to prevent heart disease
